OGE Issues Legal Advisory Regarding New Periodic Transaction Reporting Requirement

June 20, 2012

The U.S. Office of Government Ethics (OGE) has issued a Legal Advisory, LA-12-04, providing guidance to ethics officials on the new requirement for periodic reporting of certain financial transactions.  This requirement covers employees in positions that are subject to public financial disclosure.  Effective July 3, 2012, a covered employee must file a periodic transaction report within 30 days of receiving notification of a covered transaction, but not later than 45 days after the transaction.

OGE has attached to the Legal Advisory a new OGE Form 278-T for periodic transaction reports.  The OGE Form 278-T is available on OGE's website in Excel and static PDF formats.  OGE will develop fillable PDF and screen reader accessible versions.  OGE will consider requests from individual agencies for approval of alternate reporting formats, but agencies should use the OGE Form 278-T absent such approval.

For more information, please see Legal Advisory LA-12-04 dated June 20, 2012, on OGE's website.
